This Masterclass Started as an Argument
Someone on an online screenwriter's forum asked a seemingly simple question: "If a screenplay is 70 pages, what's the running time?"
So many people were quick to chime in with the uninformed answer: "70 minutes".
I'm here to confirm that a minute a page is one of the great lies they told us in film school.
You see, as a veteran Script Supervisor, I have been hired to pre-time numerous film & TV series over the past three decades, many of which you have seen. Producers, networks, studios and bond companies have spent roughly a quarter million dollars over the years on paying me just to answer the question: "How long is this script?". I can tell you that if the answer was as simple as a minute a page, they would not have bothered to spend the money.
Script Timings are a line item in the budget because the length of a script is influenced by a multitude of factors, both on the page and off, factors which experienced script supervisors understand. The length of a script has ramifications on production, and an accurate script timing is important because it influences some key decisions impacting both creative and the budget.
My name is Daniela Saioni, and I have not only script supervised major motion pictures and TV series in ten countries (Shazam!, Suits: Seasons 1-4, A Simple Favor, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, xXx 3, etc.), I have been training script supervisors who have launched their own impressive careers since 1995.
Someone in the forum knew about my YouTube Channel, where I post free content about script supervision and screenwriting, and he said, "why don't you make a video about how you time scripts?". I laughed, because that would be a very long YouTube video, and it's like asking to borrow the keys to the kingdom. But then I realized that people could benefit from understanding what goes into this work, and why we do it, so I am offering this class at a reasonably affordable rate.
If you are a producer, screenwriter, script supervisor, development executive, or anyone else who has a vested interest in learning how and why a script supervisor pre-times film & TV scripts, this masterclass is for you.
